Cassiopeia Prime today

One of the first worlds terraformed outside the Sol System, and headquarters of the Cassiopeia Consortium.

Discovered in 2082 by telescopes, this temperate (once warm) E-Class world is the fifth planet of Achird and was a prime example for a very earth-like planet. Liek Terranova, many future developers for the Warp Drive looked up to Cassiopeia Prime as a bastion for Humanity.

As the Warp Drive was invented in 2331 CE, Cassiopeia Prime was one of the first targets by the space communities. Colonies appeared only decades after the invention of the Warp Drive, although they were very thin in numbers. By 2430 CE, the first true colony was established.

Study of the warm terrestrial planet revealed that it had life, but it was only small algae in the seas and land and due to increased global warming, they were dying.

Eager to try and save them, the colonists studied them to see what possible effect the terraforming process would have on them. It was discovered that the world was once very Earth-like, but a series of events such as a massive asteroid strike caused the atmosphere to heat up considerably. This caused a mass extinction of most major plants and animals. The oceans had almost boiled away entirely, leaving only the deepest craters with water. It appears as if it was slowly filling up, but not at a satisfactory rate.

When this was discovered, many attempts to place the algae in safe areas wa made. This was until the 2500s, when suitable terraforming technology was sent to Cassiopeia Prime. This was done very slowly, so that the local life forms could adjust to the gradual changes. The rotation was sped up, and the oceans were brought back by siphoning the oceans from its sister planet Cowabunga, along with lowering its overall temperature. Terraforming slowed during the Second Age when the planet was declining in tourism and population. Eventually, by 4180, the planet had been completely terraformed, and almost every extinct species had been resurrected thanks to advanced genetics.

In 4215, the Cassiopeia Consortium built a massive city and factories on one of the small island continents in the north. This caused a massive influx of colonists and the establishment of a global transportation network, uniting the planet.

With a population of 10.2 billion, the planet is one of the most densely populated core worlds of the Confederacy. Most of the population are Consortium employees but some own their own small businesses. They are around the same height as terrestrial humans and with the same characteristics.

The government is basically run and backed by the Consortium but the people living on the planet never complain as everyone, employee or not, is treated equally.

Current map

The planet has a diameter of 13874.3 km giving it a gravitational index of 1.2 G. It has a semimajor axis of 1.3 AU making its year 1.5 terrestrial years. It has one moon named Cassiopeia Prime Alpha, or simply Alpha.

When first discovered it had a day length of 2.5 Earth days, an axial tilt of 59° and 45’, an atmospheric pressure of 14.6 and a mean temperature of 79.5 °C. After extensive terraforming it had a day length of 23 hours and 3 minutes, an axial tilt of 19° and 56’, an atmospheric pressure of 1.1 and a mean temperature of 25.6 °C.

Map pre-terraforming

The planet’s new axial tilt gives it less of seasons than Earth but it is a pleasant place to live, warm and pleasant most of the time. Its rejuvenated climate teems with local plant and animal life as well as a few incorporated extraplanetary life.
