Planet Concordia (RS 8412-477-7-384627-1196 in 9.7.3) was the first planet settled after the founding of the Confederacy of Borealis.

Discovered in 2991 by a long range automated FTL probe, this world, a temperate E-Class world, was deemed perfect for the establishment of a colony despite there being more land than surface water. After the signing of the Charter of Terrasphere Alpha the major groups of the past centuries previous wars talked about establishing a colony on this world as a sign of good faith.

They refitted their largest colony vessels and brought twice as much as they would need as the planet was nearly 16000 light years away from Sol. When they reached the colony they had a ceremony in which a newly married couple (one from each former side of the war), took joint steps onto their new world. The trip had taken a few years with some of the new improvements to the warp drive.

Almost all the ships were dismantled in order to build Concordia City, now the capital of the entire planet and a major center of trade in the sector. The remaining ships were left in orbit to defend the small colony until such time as they weren’t needed anymore.

The colony grew and more colonists imported from each side, setting up other cities all across the planet and mostly near the large freshwater landlocked seas of the new planet.

Currently there is a population of 11.3 billion, most living in massive eco-friendly cities while others live within small cabins in the forests of the planet. The colony is governed as of 10000 by a Timocratic Meritocracy, basically rule by honorable people of talent. Every time rulers are changed out the new applicants take a questionnaire which asks them a series of questions about ability and honor.

Because of this government the entire planetary population values honor and ability of the individual are prized above all else.

With a diameter of 10717.3 km (6659.4 mi), this planet is smaller than Earth, giving it a gravitational pull of 0.88 G. It is the fourth planet from its parent star Unitas, a type G8V star and orbits at a distance of 0.84 AU, giving it a year length of 294.9 days. Its day is shorter than Earth’s at a mere 17 hours and 12 minutes. It has a mean temperature of 8.1 °C (46.6 °F) making it cooler than Earth but still tolerable.

Concordia at one point had an atmospheric pressure of 0.3 but after a bit of terraforming the atmospheric pressure was around human tolerable levels. The world has eleven captured asteroid moons. The entire system is 8.3 billion years old.

Map of Concordia

When first discovered, the planet was covered in tall forests and a few areas of large quantities of ice near the equator as the land there was taller than the surrounding land thanks to its shorter day.

Those forests were nearly wiped out after centuries of deforestation but not wanting to repeat the near mistake of global warming on Earth the inhabitants began to replant and even introduced compatible plants from other star systems, notably Earth. Now the forests of old are nearly regrown and live among alien plants and animals.

The massive ice shelves on the poles remain however because to melt them would spell certain doom for the planet’s new ecosystem.
