Diinok ( RS1186-2267-7-1369142-57 5 in 0.9.3 ) is an E-class planet that orbits a K1-class Orange Dwarf, is only 0.64% of Earths diameter, has a gravity of 0.62e, and an atmospheric pressure of 1.14e. It orbits its star every 258.6 Earth days at an average distance of 0.737 AU from its star. Axial tilt is more than 68*, so violent seasons can be expected here. It has a moon named Parthia ( 5.1 ).
ExplanationThe Isvoy was attracted to this system after some very strange scanner returns were found. According to the computer, the system Diinok resides in had 2 lifebearing worlds, however, observations made over the course of two Earth weeks revealed the very ending of a mass migration from Planet 6, and the last phases of terraforming on Diinok. After the Contact Directive criteria was shown to have been met (the native Diinokians do have their own warp drive, and are a peaceful people), the Isvoy decloaked and the captain introduced himself.
The Diinokulan ambassador told a pretty depressing tale through an interpreter. Their home planet was named "Eyria" ( 6 ), after a benevolent 6-armed god in their mythology, and that is where they evolved. However, once they gained the ability to alter the orbits of asteroids, they tried to move one of the asteroid moons around Eyria to a lower orbit, to make it easier to mine. Their scientists identified an extremely potent organism deep inside the asteroid, but concluded if proper de-contamination protocols were followed after mining, it was safe to go ahead and mine the asteroid. However, the asteroid soon broke up due to the stronger gravity, and large pieces of it impacted the surface of Eyria. Fortunately the Diinokulans had time to draft up an evacuation plan, and had plenty of time to do so; around the order of 200 years.
Unfortunately, during this time the organism that was in the asteroid rapidly evolved into a poisonous purple lichen that spread at speeds unheard of. The spores shot out of this lichen eventually turned the tan atmosphere a poisonous blue hue, thinned it out to dangerous levels, and turned the previous E-class planet into a D-class hell. The Isvoy went to go check on Eyria to confirm this story, and to bring a sample of the lichen aboard, the captain had to put the entire ship in Double Red Alert. The results from the analysis proved interesting. The lichen has an extremely fast metabolic rate, and it reproduced through asexual reproduction at a speed of 14 daughter buds every second. Research concluded, the Isvoy turned attention toward Diinok itself.
Diinok Today / Diinokian peopleThe crew of the Isvoy was granted shore leave after orbital insertion, and they got their first glimpse of an advanced civilization. Atmospheric readings showed the chemical makeup of 37% oxygen, 40% helium, 20% of a gas yet to be identified, and 3% of other gases. The sky is colored light tan at the horizon to orangish overhead during the day, and is very hazy. Breathing the local medium was pretty strange for the Isvoy crew, due to the helium in the atmosphere.
The Diinokian people themselves resemble humans, but are a bit shorter, have fur on their arms only (rather than on their heads), and have a small rudimentary tail. They seem to have made a second home out of Diinok already, as their cities look like they have been around for centuries. The sweeping, bulbous look of their buildings are quite alien-looking.
The Diinokians are not too religious but they do have their own religions. The main god seems to be Eyr, which they named their old home planet after. One of the most popular legends seem to fortell their mass exodus too, with Eyr fighting a two-headed purple snake named Sslenkh and losing. Humiliated, she left the mountainside where the battle took place. Thus, Sslenkh is interpreted to be the equivalent of their "devil", or "satan", and Eyr is their "god".
The cuisine on Diinok is considered a delicacy to the Diinokian people, but to the humans that had arrived with the Isvoy, it was barely palatable; not horrible enough to make them want to starve to death, but not good either. Definately an acquired taste. In fact, the best food availiable according to the humans was what was called a "Meniaos'Eri", a fish-like creature 4 feet long, which tasted like "burned roast pig with some hints of raw salmon, very pleasant aftertaste however."
Their calendar is broken up into three "eoans"; B.E., D.E., and A.S., for Before Exodus, During Exodus (both used the day length of Eyria, which is 17h 45m 9s), and After Settlement, which uses the daylength of the new planet as a basis for the new calendar (which is 21h 42m 32s). The current "year" is 490A.S.
Diinok technology is equivalent to Earth technology in the year 2300, and they have breached the FTL barrier. Their warp drive is only capable of 10 LY per Earth year, however they have discovered life themselves, even though it took a little more than a year to get to that system via Earth time.
They have extremely advanced space stations, with thousands of people living aboard the largest of these, in Diinok orbit. Stations have been found as far out as the 11th planet in the system ( 11 ) a frozen gas giant the locals call "Girui". It is extremely easy to go anywhere within their system via their warp drive, as they have invented a "Warprein" that slows down the top speed of the drive to close to the speed of light.
They still mine asteroids, but due to not wanting a repeat performance of Eyria, they have chosen to mine asteroids around planets with no life. The first of these was "Halar", planet 9 (9), and was completed in 470A.S. with no additional mishaps.
Captain Yulander will submit the massive amount of information gleaned from the system to top brass at Earth station, with a recommendation that they be put on the watch list for further contact, and eventual incorporation into the larger spacefaring community. He has consulted with the Diinok head of state (they have a one-world government) if Captain Yulander could leave a detachment of personnel here which was approved, on the condition that they do not disrupt the Diinok. For this, the Captain found a temperate O-class moon ( 7.2 ) around the 7th planet, named "Iiesi".
The Isvoy successfully splashed down on "New Iiesi" and deployed a 100-man ocean-going vessel, before lifting off again into orbit, a maneuver that was only tested on Earth before. Observations complete, it left the system half a year later, in 9961.
