Hivol (RSC 8474-1634-4-1828-202 4) is a D-Class planet in the M31 cluster within Milky Way's sphere of influence. It is a tidally locked planet. Being the most influential human planet in the cluster, its largest city is Myoaya, capital of the Free Systems of Hivol.

The people of the FSH originated from draft-dodgers of the Confederacy of Humanity who escaped the war to the M31 cluster. During their cruise, they stopped several hundred light-years before arriving at the cluster in order to identify potential habitation worlds prior to their arrival. Hivol was selected, partially due to the existence of life multiple times in the same system.

Due to communication errors only about half the humans arrived at the system, and only 3 out of the 7 ships settled on the planet. Nevertheless, the planet's existing atmosphere and unicellular algae proved to be extremely helpful for the colony's growth. Soon enough, multiple factories extracting minerals and other resources from the deserts were sprung up.

As industry spread into the dayside, population grew fast around the terminator based on some groundwater deposits feeding into biodome cities. Some of these biodomes expanded into vast networks both above ground and underground, with populations in the hundreds of thousands. The initial landing site was named Myoaya, after the home village of one of the ship captains.

After the war ended and the Confederacy granted general amnesty for the populace, the Confederate office/embassy was set up on the planet, in one of its larger cities.

Even with the small amount of external trade involved with the populace, the domestic economy was growing steadily, allowing the population to fluorish and expand around the whole terminator line, with underground dwellings spreading even further.

During the Hivolian-Khriss War, the 3rd fleet of the Khriss Navy attempted to take control of the orbits around Hivol, only to be beaten back by the defenders. Aside from that, Hivol has never been attacked by a hostile force.

As it currently stands, the population of Hivol is approaching a billion (including its moons). About one-fifths of these live in the biodomes, with most of the rest living underground. Some miners and industrial workers, as usual, live near their mining outposts.

As an industrially advanced planet, Hivol is home to the largest of the four spaceship dockyards within the FSH. It also processes a good fraction of ores and metals mined from the asteroids, along with its own native ore production. Important minerals produced include Aluminium, Cadmium, Tellurium, and Beryllium ores. These ores are then converted into alloys for construction use, exported to other systems, or made into consumer goods.

The power generation on the planet relies on a super-massive solar power plant located in the middle of the planet's dayside, producing 11 PW of electricity. This is complemented by the use of Geothermal Power Plants around some of the planet's large volcanoes which produce an additional 4 PW. All other power generation systems combined produce less than 1 PW.

Some genetic modification has allowed rapid evolution of the algae scattered throughout the terminator line of the planet into more complex, multicellular plants resembling shrubs and grass on other planets. These are cultivated alongside "traditional" human crops, mainly since they can survive outside of biodomes and in worse areas. They are then converted to glucose and used for general foodstuffs.

Due to its position as the capital, the services industry is an important factor of the economy of the planet. It is estimated that the 65% of banking services and 80% of the higher-tech industries of the FSH is located in Hivol or Hivolen.

Politics and Administration

Hivol enjoys the most political power as a single planet in the FSH, due to its historical status, political status, economic importance, and population size. Nevertheless, its local governance (the Hivol Planetary Office) have clashed with the central governance (Chief Office) multiple times due to differences in policy.

The planet's government is divided into 13 main zones, each with its own regional administration body. 9 of these zones are located within 14° 12' of the terminator (i.e. 10° + axial tilt), with the permanent day/night zones divided into 3 remaining territories:

  1. Nightside
  2. Outer Dayside
  3. Central Dayside

The terminator region (i.e. those within 14° 12') measures about 11 million km2 each, and they're numbered according to their coordinates (North Pole is defined as zero, going clockwise seen from direction of parent star). Between segments 1 and 2, the special Myoaya zone (with the size of about 1 million km2) is located.

A rough separation of the administrative regions of Hivol. In practice, the borders are not perfectly lined/spherical.

In addition to the 12 zones, another extra zone governs the populace living in orbit of the planet. This includes the 4 asteroid moons and space stations.

Listed below are the population for each zone, according to a 12480 survey:

Rank Zone Population
1 Terminator-4 122,500,000
2 Terminator-2 119,300,000
3 Terminator-7 93,900,000
4 Terminator-1 94,000,000
5 Myoaya Special Zone 90,700,000
6 Terminator-5 88,100,000
7 Central Dayside 74,000,000
8 Terminator-8 73,400,000
9 Terminator-3 70,000,000
10 Outer Dayside 53,200,000
11 Terminator-6 51,900,000
12 Nightside 26,000,000
13 Off-terrestrial 15,000,000

The defined area proper of Myoaya itself, an area of about 55 thousand km2, is home to about 34 million people.

Hivol is, logically, the most well-defended planet in FSH territory. It's defended by several orbital stations and it hosts the headquarters of the FSH armed forces. Each of the sectors mentioned above has their own military headquarters with control of a single corps (3 divisions - up to 36,000 soldiers and equipment).

The majority of the FSH Space Navy is located around Hivol's orbit. While the Hivolians have little track record in fighting wars, the ground defenses deployed in locations around the planet aids significantly in the case of a likely invasion.

As with other FSH soldiers, they are armed with local weapons instead of Confederacy-made ones.
