Early Life

Laura Teller was born on June 21, 1989, in Elkhart, Texas to Carl Denis Teller and Louise Mary Teller. She was named after Louise's sister who had been killed in a vehicle accident a few months before Laura's birth.

Her family lived on a small farm in near Elgin, a town 30 kilometers from the state's capital, Austin. She spent much of her childhood working as a field-hand for her parents and neighbors. Despite this, she excelled in mathematics. During her teen years she was placed in advanced courses.
