Lexys B-IV is an inhabited D-Class planet in the Lexys System. Located less than 1,500 light-years away from Earth, it is an industrial-mining planet operated by the Lexys Company since the 39th century.
Overview and Early History
The planet has been discovered from a long distance in the late 32nd century by a sky survey focused on its general region from Sol. However, it was not fully explored until 3641, when a survey ship passed by and conducted an astrogeological survey in the system. However, due to it being a relatively unremarkable planet, it remained as an empty spot in the map until some investors and locals based on the (minerally exhausted) planet Nestropter joined together into a firm (known as the Nestro Cooperative). This firm focused on "collecting" lifeless, ordinary planets (i.e. planets without particularly impressive mineral resources) by purchasing permits cheaply from the Confederacy of Humanity and strip-mining them for industrial resources.
Lexys B-IV is one such planet, and they began operations to mine base metals such as Iron and Aluminium on the planet, shipping them to major industrial hubs nearer Earth.
After a while, the firm began construction of industrial facilities on the planet, allowing them to ship higher-value goods instead of metals. It began supplying ship components and machinery to major shipbuilding worlds.
Life on the planet remained idle with massive mining machines and titanic automated factories processing the ores until the advent of the First Galactic War.
First Galactic War
As the Giokans fought battles against the humans throughout Milky Way, they attempted to reduce the industrial capabilities of the Confederacy of Humanity to gain an edge in the all-out war. With core industrial planets heavily defended (especially locations of the spaceyards), the Giokans diverted to strike mining planets supplying these centers with raw materials.
By gathering intelligence from captured civilian cargo vessels, the Giokans managed to discover Lexys B-IV and its production of parts and machinery, making it a prime target. The Giokan command dispatched a fleet to capture or raze the industrial base.
Due to an essential absence of a defense mechanism (the lack of piracy in the area contributed to this), the planet's inhabitants (mostly factory workers/miners and their families) immediately surrendered to the invaders before the latter could begin their assault on October 4, 9081. The production of the planet was halted, with the Giokan High Command intending to convert the planet into a base of operations for the space sector surrounding it. However, these never fruited due to an offensive by the Confederate Military nearby, forcing the Giokans to divert their resources for the combat.
As the war pushed on, the Confederacy orchestrated a recapture of the planet as a part of a sweeping operation across several systems near it. The operation was quite successful, and the occupiers (about 250 stationed Giokan soldiers) were either killed or taken prisoner on February 12, 9083. The civilians were essentially left unharmed by the conflicts, although the facilities sustained some damage from combat and sabotage.
