The Lycurgus Galaxy is a barred spiral galaxy located 136 million light-years away from the Milky Way Galaxy. It is located in the Thavma Cluster and is the third satellite Galaxy of the Libation Galaxy, putting it in relatively close proximity to the Ambrosia Galaxy being only 7,246,000 light-years away from it.

General

Not much is known about this mysterious galaxy, since no known scientific instrument can study it for unknown reasons. Many probes sent there from the Ambrosia Galaxy stopped functioning, as if they were remotely deactivated. The galaxy is radio silent as if something is masking it's existence. It is also unusually dim, only emitting visible light in relative close proximity. It was only visually discovered when humans first entered the Ambrosia Galaxy, however new forms of study are being developed.

It is believed and highly likely that the galaxy is inhabited by an intelligent species that is sabotaging instruments aimed at it. It is unknown if this hypothetical civilization has inter galactic capabilities.

Galactic Geography

The Lycurgus galaxy seems to be made up of four galactic arms spiraling from it's galactic center. However it is not known their diameter, or how many stars they house since no scientific instrument can be used to map them. The arms are nicknamed the Eunomus Arm. The Charilaus Arm. The Nicander Arm. And the Lykourgos Arm.

History

The Lycrugus galaxy was first visually discovered on January 1st 10265 CE when the Galactic Traveler landed on planet Haven. The discovery came as a shock to the colonists since a galaxy that close to Ambrosia should have been visible, studied, and even colonized.

However when the colonists tried to view it through their telescopes they found an empty void where the galaxy should be located. Using infrared and ultra violet light still turned up nothing. Radio waves and electromagnetic radiation ended with the same results.

On January 12th 10,278 CE they finally had visual confirmation using a unique reflective satellite telescope orbiting planet Haven. Using this telescope they could determine the rough diameter, and the rough amount of stars within it, however without more advance instruments they were unable to learn more about the galaxy.

On May 10th 10,309 CE an inter galactic probe was sent to the Lycurgus Galaxy to search for signs of intelligent life. It was believed at the time that an intelligent species was masking the galaxy from long range instruments however once the probe would reach the galaxy's location it would be open to research. This was not the case. Upon the probe's entering within 500,000 light-years of the galaxy it was mysteriously deactivated. No further expeditions are planned.

Speculation

How the Lycurgus Galaxy remains so elusive remains unknown. However, there are two prominent theories on why the galaxy cannot be observed. One, that the galaxy is inhabited by an intelligent species, powerful enough to mask an entire galaxy's presence.

Or two, the Lycurgus Galaxy's super massive black hole emits a strange form of radiation that covers the galaxy in some sort of dome, masking the galaxy from view. If the ladder proves to be true, then that could mean millions of galaxies of this type are awaiting to be discovered.
